The NYS Common Core titles for ELA have brought to light some basic things we should give thanks for during this time of Thanksgiving. There is one obvious one that pertains to our work in the libraries. My Librarian is a Camel is a prime example of what our jobs would look like if we lived in another country. They have bicycle libraries in Indonesia where the books are taken around by bicycle. Then there is Kenya where the books are carried around on camels and you walk to the villages leading a camel. How many would go into the library field if they lived in Omkoi, a region in northern Thailand, where the books are transported by ELEPHANT! Personally, I'll take our slow-running Union Catalog and Sneakernet over riding a bike or being anywhere near a camel or elephant any day. I'm thankful.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
